NORMAL PEOPLE EXPLAIN THINGS TO ME IS COMING SOON

Update: Production of the trailer is now wrapped, but we still need help with post-production costs! This includes editing, and sound studio costs. I was going to record the music at a friend of mine's studio, but he had to pawn everything recently. I am going to be purchasing a new midi controller, because my old one crapped out a long time ago, since that seems the cheapest option so I can record the music at home. I still need to pay for a sound studio to record the voiceovers, and (hopefully not) ADR. ALSO, if those of you at home wonder how I paid the production costs, I took out a loan, which I need to pay back. I took out the loan because the project came together so smoothly that I wanted to make sure that no one suffered financially for choosing to work for me. It's one thing to ask people to work for you for free, but it is too much to ask that they pay the expenses they incur working for you out of pocket. The one production expense that I still have to pay is my DP's rental agreement.

Despite myriad hiccups, we finished production on time and under budget, but the loan I took out was for only part of the budget. Please consider a contribution to help me defray these costs. And if you want any of these perks listed below, please shoot me an email, and I will make it happen. Again, your contributions will go 100% to defraying the costs of the production, whether for post-production or repayment of the loan. Help us get this show onto television! Normal People Explain Things to Me is a comedy series about an autistic family written from an autistic point of view. TV shows today with autistic characters are written by neurotypical people and don’t represent autistic people the way they actually are in their variety, and certainly they never portray autistic people from their point of view.

 

I am an autistic actress and writer with 20 years’ experience in the industry. I created this show because I could not relate to the autistic characters I was seeing on television nor did they resemble autistic people I knew, such as the ones in my family. I aim to show the world the humanity of autistic people and create a very funny show that anyone of any neurotype can enjoy.  This will be the first show written from the autistic point of view on television.  My goal is to get this onto a streaming network or premium cable channel.

 

To this end, I’m shooting a trailer as a proof of concept to network executives and to also attract a producing partner. And this costs MONEY. 100% of your donations will go to defray production costs, such as equipment rental, catering (I have lots of hungry actors and crew to feed), and post-production. The crew and cast are already assembled and we start production on March 9. Throughout production and post-production, we need funds to defray costs. I have produced a number of things successfully, but this is my largest project yet. One thing I have always been good at is surmounting obstacles.  My director, Jamila Brown, is also an experienced director whom I’ve worked with before. I am so excited to work with her again.
